Lamborghini Leaves City Councilor Lulung Under Police’s Close Scrutiny
By Bayu Marhaenjati on 10:05 pm Aug 28, 2014

Jakarta. It was a moment of flashy ostentation that now looks certain to doom Jakarta businessman and outspoken city councilor Abraham “Lulung” Lunggana to a police investigation at the very least.

Lulung, a former street enforcer who clashed publicly with Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama last year over the latter’s efforts to evict street vendors from the Tanah Abang area of Central Jakarta, now faces questions over the registration of the Rp 20 billion ($1.71 million) Lamborghini that he showed up to at his inauguration at the City Council on Monday.

Fittingly enough, it was Basuki who drew attention to the car, telling reporters in his characteristic off-the-cuff manner that it didn’t matter if city councilors came to work in expensive cars — as long as they could prove they were paid for legitimately.

Seemingly prodded by his remarks, the Jakarta Police dug a little deeper into Lulung’s Lamborghini, a Gallardo Superleggera, and found, to no one’s surprise, that the license plate and accompanying registration papers were fake.

“After cross-checking, we can confirm that the police did not issue the letters” for the car, Sr. Comr. Rikwanto, a city police spokesman, said on Thursday. “We’re now checking with the dealer.”

Lulung earlier this month showed off a registration document that he claimed had been applied for on his behalf by the dealer, The Djakarta Auto.

It also carried the signature of one Adj. Sr. Comr. Maulana Hamdan, an official at the Jakarta Police’s traffic unit — but police have written it off as fake.

“I’ve checked with Maulana and he said he never signed such a document. We suspect it’s fake,” said Sr. Comr. Mulya Budiyanto, the city police’s traffic chief.

He also said that the license plate on the car, B 1285 SHP, was not registered in the police’s database, indicating that either the owner or the dealer had failed to legally register the vehicle.

“That slot is empty. If it really was registered, it would show up in the database. But it’s not there,” Mulya said.

Lulung previously claimed to have a fleet of at least five exotic sports cars.

Prior to his bust-up with Basuki, in which the latter prevailed, Lulung was best known for allegedly collecting protection money from illegal parking attendants and street vendors in Tanah Abang.

Police confiscate Lulung’s Lamborghini
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Jakarta | Tue, September 02 2014, 6:37 AM

The Jakarta Police confiscated United Development Party (PPP) legislator Abraham “Lulung” Lunggana’s green Lamborghini on Sunday evening because it was not registered with the city police and was using a fake police registration number.

“Yes, we have confiscated it in order to further our investigation,” Adj. Sr. Comr. Indarsono, an official from the traffic police’s law enforcement sub-directorate, said on Monday.

Indarsono explained that the police needed to confiscate the car in order to examine its ownership permits.

Previously, Lulung shocked bystanders when he drove to his Jakarta City Council (DPRD) inauguration in the luxury car on Aug. 25.

Lulung told reporters that his car’s police registration number was a temporary one as the vehicle registration was still being processed by the Jakarta Police. However, officials from the Jakarta Police denied that they had published a registration letter for the Lamborghini and said that the letter Lulung possessed must be a counterfeit.
