Security guard who broke neighbour's nose over alleged noise level gets jailed
19 Sep 2016 | Amir Hussain

SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old security guard harassed and assaulted two female neighbours, hitting one of the women on her forehead and breaking the other's nose, a court heard.

On Monday (Sept 19), Muhammed Imran Masir was jailed for six months and four days after he pleaded guilty to one charge of causing grievous hurt and two of harassment.

Another count each of causing hurt and harassment were taken into consideration in sentencing.

Imran lives on the third floor of Block 49 Sterling Road. A district court heard that on June 28 last year, at about 3.45am, he heard loud noises coming from above his unit.

Angry, he went to the unit directly above his flat and banged on Ms Clare Wan Huiyan's door and metal gate, before leaving.

On Feb 20 this year, at about 10.35pm, he went to harass her again. This time, he kicked her gate and told her to stop stomping on the floor, but she denied doing so.

Imran then uttered an expletive in Hokkien and kicked her gate again before leaving.

He also uttered an expletive in English outside her flat at about 8.50pm on March 3.

Three weeks later, on March 21, at about 10.05pm, he went to knock on her door. After Ms Wan opened her door and gate, Imran shouted at her, claiming he could hear loud noises in his unit which were coming from her flat. The neighbours argued and Imran punched Ms Wan in the face once before leaving.

Ms Wan went to hospital and was found to have a broken nose.

The incidents of assault and harassment were captured on a closed-circuit television camera installed outside her flat.

Separately, on Oct 26 last year, at about 8pm, Imran also assaulted another neighbour on the third floor.

He hit Ms Norasmah Md Ali's forehead and slammed the gate on her hand, resulting in a cut on her wrist.

Imran could have been jailed for 10 years, fined and caned for causing grievous hurt. For using abusive words and/or threatening behaviour with intent to cause distress, he could have been fined $5,000 and jailed for six months.

The maximum punishment for causing hurt is two years' jail and a $5,000 fine.
